My wife and I are freelancers based in New Zealand. For about ten years the business side of our work lived in the same messy stack a lot of solo operators know too well.
Clients and hours in Excel. Each invoice created manually in InDesign whenever it was time to send one. Nudging text boxes, rechecking totals against the sheet, exporting, attaching, sending, and hoping last month’s rate was the one we actually used.
It worked until it didn’t. One wrong cell and we were chasing our own paperwork at the end of the month, after the client work was already done.
We didn’t want another accounting suite built for firms. And we didn’t want a basic invoice PDF tool that still left us running the real admin in a spreadsheet. We wanted something that matched how freelancers like us actually work.
Simple enough to open between client calls. Focused enough to hold clients, time, expenses, invoices, and the bits that sit around getting paid, without turning into a second full-time job.
There are thousands of tools being pumped out right now that do similar, very cool things. AI made that possible. PAYDAY is our version. The one we built for how we work. We are having a blast using it and developing it further, and if it can eventually pay the bills too, even better. It has already cut our admin overhead and made the business side of our work far more efficient.
We have been using PAYDAY successfully for our own clients for months now. It already runs the day-to-day of our freelance practices: the work, the hours, the invoices, the follow-up.
Now we want to bring it to market for other freelancers who work like we do. People who need something clear, simple, and practical, not another bloated finance platform.
There will be a free option, and paid options too. Exact pricing is still to be confirmed as beta shapes up.
