I’m a designer and web developer based in New Zealand. For about ten years the business side of my work lived in the same messy stack a lot of solo operators know too well.
Clients and hours in Excel. Invoices rebuilt from scratch in InDesign every time someone needed a PDF that looked proper enough to send. Nudging text boxes, rechecking totals against the sheet, exporting, attaching, sending, and hoping last month’s rate was the one I actually used.
It worked until it didn’t. One wrong cell and I was chasing my own paperwork at the end of the month, after the client work was already done.
I didn’t want another accounting suite built for firms. I didn’t want a blank PDF stamp that dumps you straight back into a spreadsheet. I wanted something that matched how I work.
Simple enough to open between client calls. Focused enough to hold clients, time, expenses, invoices, and the bits that sit around getting paid, without turning into a second full-time job.
AI finally made it possible to ship that. PAYDAY is the result. Hopefully it becomes a living. Either way, I am having a blast using it and developing it further. It has cut my admin overhead and made the business side of my work far more efficient.
I have been using PAYDAY successfully for my own clients for months now. It already runs the day-to-day of my freelance practice: the work, the hours, the invoices, the follow-up.
Now I want to bring it to market for other freelancers who work like I do. People who need something clear, calm, and practical, not another bloated finance platform.
There will be a free option, and paid options too. Exact pricing is still to be confirmed as beta shapes up.
